How to Prepare for Your First Therapy Session
What to bring, what to expect, and what you do not need to have figured out.

Bring a simple starting point
Write one or two sentences about why you made the appointment. Include how the concern affects daily life if that feels useful. You can also say that you are unsure where to begin.
Questions about working together
It is reasonable to ask how sessions usually work, how the therapist approaches your concerns, how privacy and records are handled, and what happens if the fit does not feel right.
Keep expectations realistic
A first appointment often includes orientation and background. It does not need to produce a complete plan or immediate breakthrough.

Build my agendaCommon questions
What should I bring?
Follow the provider’s instructions. Common practical items include identification, insurance or payment information, forms, medication information if requested, and your questions.
Do I have to share my whole history?
You can ask what information is needed and discuss your comfort level with the therapist. SessionPrep does not decide what you must disclose.
